Fourth is the disappearance of the Bangladesh Chhatra League — the student wing of Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League (AL) — a day prior to the students’ march to Dhaka.Historically, students have been at the forefront of various political movements in Bangladesh. These small groups included intellectuals with whom students could discuss issues that affected Bangladesh politics and share their thoughts on the way forward. Speaking at a Chhatra Shibir rally at the Suhrawardy Udyan in December 2024, Mr. Alam said, “We found Islami Chhatra Shibir to be our allies in 2024. After enforcing a ban on the Awami League, the students want to do away with the 1972 Constitution which they have termed as a ‘Mujibbadi Constitution’.
